As we bring Season One of PEP Talk to a close, we wanted to pause and reflect — not just on the episodes we filmed, but on what this year has taught us about purpose, people, and doing the work that actually matters.
Season One has been about coming alongside purpose-led people. Start-ups, social enterprises, churches, community leaders — people who often feel like they’re carrying a big vision with limited time, limited resources, and a lot of responsibility. Again and again, what people told us they needed wasn’t another idea. It was clarity.
Clarity about their purpose.
Clarity about their next step.
Clarity about how to move from good intentions to something practical and sustainable.
“Most purpose-led people don’t need more ideas. They need clarity — about their purpose, their next step, and how to turn good intentions into something sustainable.”
One of the big threads this year has been governance. Whether it’s running a business, leading a community initiative, or working inside a regulated system, governance shapes what’s possible. We’ve seen firsthand how much invisible labour sits behind community-led work — especially for Pacific and Indigenous organisations that are often carrying a “double load”: holding culture and language, while also meeting complex Western compliance requirements.
That tension is something we’ve been reflecting on deeply, including through Marie’s doctoral research into Samoan Indigenous governance in early learning. It’s work that asks a bigger question:
what would our systems look like if they were designed with Indigenous communities, not just imposed on them?
Another highlight of the year was the birth of PaCIVICa — a civic leadership initiative that grew from conversation into a pilot, and then into a charitable trust. It’s a reminder that ideas don’t become real by waiting for permission. They become real by being tested, piloted, and shaped alongside community. Proof of concept matters. People want to see what’s possible in practice.
Season One has also been about learning by doing. Sitting on boards. Being part of collectives. Engaging in conversations about AI, governance, and standards. Not just teaching theory, but being in the work ourselves — learning what holds, and what doesn’t, under pressure.
As we head into the end of the year, we want to say thank you. To everyone who’s watched, listened, shared, or quietly followed along — we see you. And we’re grateful.
Season Two will continue in 2026, with more conversations, more stories, and more practical insights from people who are building purpose-driven work in the real world.
Until then, we hope you have space to rest, reconnect, and reflect on what matters most.
Purpose-empowered people can change communities. We’ve seen it — and we’re just getting started.
